Cottam is a coal-fired power station near Retford in Nottinghamshire, capable of generating enough electricity for approximately 7.5 million UK homes. The power station has 4 units and turbines allowing it to supply 2000MW to the national grid. Constructed in 1966, fully operational in 1969, the power station has approximately 220 EDF Energy employees and around 175 contract partners.

As part of their ongoing commitment to saving energy, the station has retro-fitted 96 x 150W HID lamps in their turbine room replacing 400W HID lamps. The changeover results in a saving of 24,000W per hour and gives employees a clear, clean and crisp working environment.
